No more steroid use in UFC?

The president of UFC Dana White claims that the steroid problem in UFC has been solved.

Dana White who is president of Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC), said in an interview on ESPN's Sportsnation that the steroid problem was solved.

"You know, Performance enhancing drugs have been cleaned up in the UFC", White said. "Usually when tests were made they only tested few of the competitors. Now, everyone is tested."

This means that White thinks that because everyone in the sport gets tested, there is no use of anabolic steroids or other performance enhancing drugs. And he claims that since no one in the UFC is testing positive anymore it is no longer a problem.

We know for a fact that this is not true. For example Dennis Siver tested positive for hCG, which you use when you are coming off a steroid cycle.

Either Dana White is really naive, or maybe he is just doing what the other bosses of most sports leagues have done in order to take care of the doping problems - lie their teeth of and pretend that their sport don't have any problems with doping. There are so many different ways and techniques to avoid getting caught at a doping test that assumptions like this is just absurd.

When you look at the statistics you can see that out of WADA's thousands of test every year only 1% of the athletes are caught with some sort of PED in their body. This is the same percentage that was caught over 25 years ago.

Maybe it's time to stop with the tests and let each athlete do whatever they want? Maybe that would be the option that is most fair?
